I am still convinced that portion control is a key concept in controlling your weight. If you stick with these you can’t go far wrong.

Those amounts are for women, and partially active women at that, yes?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if I stuck to that, I would look like Mo Farrah inside a year.
I think a little context might be warranted in this post.
These are absolute. A piece of meat the size if a deck of cards amounts to three ounces – for a man or a woman. To control your weight you need to know how much you are taking in. A mistake I used to make is “one serving of pasta equals 200 calories.” So I would eat a 10 inch plate full and think I was consuming 200 calories, but a serving of pasta is about the size of a baseball. After I learned how much a serving of pasta was, I began to get my weight under control.

While that may be so, men eat more than women. We have to. If my wife ate portion sizes that even came close to mine, she’d be big as a house… and she’s a cyclist too. It’s one of those awesomely unfair parts of being a man. Of course, we die first, so there’s that.
On average, men die first, but take a man who eats intelligently, exercises regularly, doesn’t smoke and gets enough sleep and he will do just fine. Sadly, we guys have been really dumb in the past about how we live. I hope that will not be the case going forward. At least, that is why I am writing this blog. Fingers crossed.
I like to believe that strict portion control doesn’t matter ….but after of years of battling my weight, I must admit it does. I LOVE to eat for a zillion reasons, but in the end, it how MUCH I eat is the KEY to keeping my weight in-check. It’s a drag …. but portion control is KEY.
