Don’t go bananas – but maybe eat one – AHA

On the screen, bananas are a menace. Just ask Charlie Chaplin, Bugs Bunny or anyone who’s played Mario Kart.

In your diet, though, bananas can be a boon. Experts have a bunch of reasons to like them and see only a few ways the elongated yellow fruit could cause your health to slip.

“They’re rich in nutrients and fiber,” said Colleen Spees, associate professor of medical dietetics at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. “They’re delicious. They’re inexpensive. They’re all the right things.”

How healthy (or ripe) is the banana?

Ripe or unripe or somewhere in the middle? However you decide to eat your banana, experts say there are nutritional differences for all three. according to Global News’s Arti Patel.

After a photo of the different stages of a banana went viral on Instagram, social media was left divided as to which stage of a banana tastes the best. But it turns out each stage of banana also has different nutritional benefits.

Abbey Sharp, Toronto registered dietitian at Abbey’s Kitchen, tells Global News, the biggest difference between ripe and unripe bananas is their starch content.

There was a fellow being interviewed who had just written a book on the history of the banana. I laughed. What kind of history could it have? What I like about this list of super foods is that they look and sound like anything but super. Sometimes in our quest for good nutrition we overlook really good quality for exotic berries and concoctions. Clearly we can do very well by looking right in our own back yard.
