Happy Mother’s Day!

My mom passed away several years ago, but I would like to wish all of you mothers out there a Happy Mother’s Day!

Each of you has been a manifestation of Wonder Woman to your children from Day One.

Whoever we are, have become or will be, we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Couldn’t resist Wondy – ❤️ – and the chance to publish some of her Valentines. I wish you a wonderful day. Didn’t mind the pun at all. I know it’s a manufactured day, but you can still enjoy yourself. I hope you and your loved ones have a great day!

The most popular Halloween costume this year? – Wonder Woman

As a die hard Wonder Woman fan, I was thrilled to learn that her costume is the most popular one this Halloween. This is undoubtedly due to the superb Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot which came out earlier. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been a Wondy – ❤️ – fan since I first read her comic books in the 1940’s as a kid. She is a strong admirable woman who is a super role model for  girls of all ages.

A personal Happy Birthday post

BIRTHDAY-Party-726x400

A friend of mine once complained to me that the trouble with my blog was that it was too journalistic and not personal enough. I don’t know if that is true. I have been a professional journalist since the 1960’s, so, maybe it is and you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Personally, I hate that old cliche. It is so negative. I believe that I am learning new stuff every day. I even pass on some of it to you in the form of blog posts.

At any rate, in the interest of creating a totally personal blog post, I suggest we all celebrate Wonder Woman’s birthday – today!

Wondy in all her incarnations – past and present, TV movie and comic book

October 25 is the day that she debuted to the world within the pages of All-Star Comics #8 back in 1941. Granted, this is not an in-story birth date, but a significant date nonetheless. This is also the debut date of that article in Family Circle magazine where her creator, William Moulton Marston, first talked about comic books. This was the article that got him hired as a consultant to All-American Publications, where he would later create Wondy.

Original sketch from artist Harry Peter

As you all know by now I am an old guy, turning 78 in January. I have been a fan of Wondy since I first ran across her comics back in the mid-1940’s. Like any love, I can’t explain it. I only know that I have loved her stories since then.

In practice, I think she is a wonderful (intended) role model for young girls and women. If you haven’t seen Gal Gadot’s performance in the new Wonder Woman movie, you are missing something. She brings a youth, sweetness and innocence to the role that the redoubtable Lynda Carter didn’t do. Don’t misunderstand, I am not criticizing la Carter, simply making an observation. I would definitely recommend to you if you have a young girl or young woman in your life, that you go see the film together. I promise that neither of you will be disappointed.

Early Christmas wishes

Regular readers know that I am a big Wondy fan.

Herewith a postcard-sized illustration by H.G. Peter, the original Wonder Woman artist, featuring an image (in blue ink) of Wondy decorating a Christmas tree while two children watch on. Text reads Wonder Woman sends Seasons Greetings. The card contains traces of gold paint on her tiara, lasso and some ornaments hanging from the tree.

The original sold on line for $1500 more than 10 years ago.

Season’s greetings to you and yours!

A 2 minute psychological pick-me-up

I  confess that I am one of Wonder Woman’s oldest fans, literally, I fell in love with Wondy in the comic books I read growing up in the 1940’s. We are about a year apart in age. So, I need little excuse to run a picture of her.

What I did like about this, though, is that after all we have heard and read about body language, it turns out that altering our body language can also send signals to our own brain – not just others.

If you find yourself feeling a little macho, and would prefer a male model. Here is Superman showing you the way:

The subject of body language is a really fascinating one. Here is Amy Cuddy delivering her TED Talk on the subject:
