I went for the CT Scan the following day and that afternoon learned that my ‘mass’ was likely cancerous. Not happy news.
I am currently awaiting a call from the hospital to schedule my biopsy.
In the past several days I have gone through a myriad of emotions. As regular readers know, I devote a great deal of my time and energy to living a long and healthy life. I work on eating good, nutritious food and not eating too much food that isn’t great for me. I still ride my bike around 17 miles a day and walk my new dog another three miles daily. And I produce this website on living a healthy life.
So, beside the shock of learning that I likely had contracted a life threatening disease … no small thing! I had the additional feeling that reality was refuting my entire health-oriented lifestyle. If I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day, I wouldn’t be surprised that I likely had come down with lung cancer. But that is not the case. Had all my effort over the past 15 years been for nothing? Was I some kind of fraud?
Those have been my thoughts over the past week. Not very enjoyable. I have now reached the conclusion that while I have been dealt a ‘bad hand,’ I haven’t lost the game yet. All things considered, as far as living a healthy life, I check all the boxes. So, my conclusion has now shifted to the fact that I am in excellent condition, with one major flaw. I am in a good position to fight this thing. My system doesn’t seem to have been weakened so far. And, maybe we caught this in the early stages. Obviously, the biopsy will tell us a lot more.
That’s where I am right now. Not happy about it, but hoping for a favorable outcome and happy about, and not changing, my healthy lifestyle.
Tony
Tony, I am so sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted with your results. I know this has to be a shock. But as you said, your healthy lifestyle will help you battle whatever this is. But don’t get ahead of yourself. I have had several patients and friends over the years who have had a spot on their CT that ends up being something besides cancer, so try to keep as calm and optimistic as possible. And remember that with your healthy lifestyle you are in the best position to fight whatever this is. Please know you have friends here who are rooting for you. I am thinking of you and praying so hard. Please give your new dog an extra hug. Let us know as soon as you find out the results of the biopsy.

Dear Tony, getting older is a fact but it doesn’t change the view that it is also the sh**s! Please, I hope this is just a rather inconvenient period.

Good luck, Tony, and wishing for good news for you and a return to feeling better as you progress through treatment. Your heathy lifestyle has kept you strong and your medical knowledge should be a great asset to going through treatment.
