I watched the inauguration the other day because America’s peaceful transition of power is always a sight to behold. I am sure we are the envy of the rest of the world for this. Amid the pageantry I found myself struck by how incredible Melania Trump looked in that blue outfit – a dress with a matching jacket and gloves. I am not at all knowledgeable about fashion in general, let alone women’s fashion, but I thought the styling of the outfit was amazing and she looked fantastic in it. I know I wasn’t the only person to immediately harken back to the days of Camelot and the elegance of Jackie Kennedy.
I read somewhere that Melania had a hand in the designing of her gown for the Inaugural Ball. She’s not just another pretty face, she speaks five languages — Slovenian, English, French, Serbian and German.
I was disappointed, but sadly, not surprised, to read in the New York Times, “It remains to be seen whether there will be repercussions for Mr. Lauren, since he has just become the most high-profile designer to break with peers who previously said they would not dress Mrs. Trump. But just minutes after the news broke that she was wearing the brand, disgruntled customers posted numerous messages on Twitter saying they would no longer shop at Polo Ralph Lauren.”
When I was in the working world I wore a lot of Polo clothes because they looked good and were so well made. I am going to have to go out and buy something of his to support him.
It’s really sad to see how the glitterati on both coasts have reacted to Trump and his election. Instead of coming together behind the new president, they are whining like spoiled children. It reminds me of being in grade school when I first encountered the ‘clique.’ I was only 12 years old and we had just moved into a new neighborhood. There was a clique in school that had a chilling cohesiveness. Needless to say, I wasn’t in it. This shunning of anything related to Donald Trump looks exactly like that. The wonderful irony of course is that he is the one at the top of the mountain and everyone else is now just striving. Maybe that’s why it is so painful for them.
