McDonald’s has announced that it’s making its traditional St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Shake available nationally this year.
The shake is green for St. Patrick’s Day.
“The Shamrock Shake weighs in at 540 calories and 16 grams of fat for a small, or 840 calories and 24 grams of fat for a large, according to nutritional information on the McDonald’s website,” reports The Washington Post.
I’m a chocolate shake fan myself but have avoided them in recent years because of the calories and the sugar. My lunches these days are rarely more than 500 calories, so I won’t be Shamrock Shaking. But I wanted to let you know the calorie score if you decide to.
Tony wrote about the sugar content of the Shamrock Shake The Shamrock Shake is a Sugar Monster. Here is an excerpt, “Now comes the Shamrock Shake. Guess how much sugar is in this little sweetheart? The Fat Secret website offers the following info for a 16 ounce serving: 550 calories, 13 grams of fat of which 8 grams are saturated fat, 180 mg of Sodium 96 grams of carbs and a stunning 82 grams of sugar. Keep in mind this is the small one. The large, 32 ounce one is 164 grams of sugar. My emphasis.
“At 4.2 grams of sugar per teaspoon, the small amounts to 19.52 teaspoons full. That is a good half cup of sugar per serving. Really.”
